When I take on a new financial planning client, I follow a 6 Step Process. We have our initial meeting, then I find out all about you, what is important to you, what you would love to do. Then, it a grinds to a halt. Why? Because I need to know how much does your life cost. What do you spend all your money on. Most people don’t know where their money goes and to find out means going through a full years bank statements (for clients who buy into the financial planning process, they keep track of costs from there on).
The reason is takes so long is because it is boring and it means delving into that pile of paperwork that has been building up. So, the solution is to get someone to do it for you.
The Problem
You don’t know what you are spending your money on.
You don’t know how much anything costs, it just comes out of your bank account every month.
You don’t know when any of the bigger, annual bills are due.
The Solution
You bring in all of the paperwork that you have accumulated at home; policy documents, notifications, bank, credit card and mortgage statements etc.
We go through everything, filing all the important documents, keeping all the irrelevant documents separate to be disposed of afterwards.
Create a spreadsheet detailing your regular monthly costs so you know what you are spending on what.
The Benefits
Let’s face it, it’s a pretty boring job; by getting someone else to do it, you can spend more time doing more interesting things.
You get to clearly see what you are spending your money on and see where there is waste.
Now you know how much your utility bills are costing you, you can see if there are more competitive prices out there for gas, electricity, mobile phones, health insurance (using someone like wecansaveyoumoney.ie
You get to complete the financial planning process a lot quicker.
