I was speaking to a new client last week who told me that he didn’t want a pension. That’s fine with me, some people don’t believe in pensions. So what was the plan to provide an income in retirement? There wasn’t going to be a retirement. He loved his work and he couldn’t see himself ever stopping.
“Well”, I said, “Sometimes, that decision is taken out of your hands. Your body or mind might not be up for it. Competition might force you out or a new technology may even make your job obsolete. What are you going to do then?”
If you can’t see yourself ever giving up work, that is fine but make sure that you do it because you want to and not because you have to.
